Let The Sun Shine on Me and Make Me Feel Special

You can now download for free three excerpts from the latest Arturo en el Barco work “Let The Sun Shine on Me and Make Me Feel Special” at http://aeeb.bandcamp.com

“Let The Sun Shine on Me and Make Me Feel Special” marks the first undertaking of the newly-reformed Arturo en el Barco. This collection of six new songs explore feelings of isolation, abandonment, longing and desperation through layering of strings, voices, accordions, horns, toys and electronics. The three songs presented here in this demo are an excerpt from the complete work which was recorded live during a performance of the ensemble on January 31st, 2010 at (Le) Poisson Rouge in NYC.

Special thanks to José A. Olivares for mixing the tracks and Leonardo Velázquez for the beautiful artwork!

ARCHIPELAGO: Victoire and Arturo en el Barco

The third night of Archipelago will mark the debut of the newly reformed seven-piece electro-chamber group Arturo en el Barco, which features composer Angelica Negron. The lo-fi ensemble will premiere Negron’s Let the sun shine on me and make me feel special, a collection of six songs that, according to the composer, will “explore feelings of isolation, abandonment, longing and desperation.” November also welcomes Victoire, composer/pianist Missy Mazzoli’s genre-defying quartet, a dreamy, stirring blend of winds, strings, keyboards and lo-fi electronics. Victoire was recently called “so good; a pleasing, accessible entree into the world of pseudo-classical music” (Pitchfork), and will perform a set including tracks from their upcoming release on NewAm in 2010.

We are now an ensemble!

When I started Arturo en el Barco five years ago, I originally thought of the project as a live chamber ensemble even though it took the form of a solo endeavor.  But now it’s finally happening! We are finally an ensemble. I’m very happy to announce the debut of the new AEEB as part of the great Archipelago Series from New Amsterdam Records. We’ll be playing on Friday Nov. 20th at the lovely Galapagos Arts Space premiering a set of six new songs under the title “Let the Sun Shine on Me and Make Me Feel Special”.  Matt Marks (french horn), Andie Springer (violin), Insia Malik (violin), Evelyn Farny (cello), Beth Meyers (viola, banjo) and José Olivares (electronics) will join me in this new adventure!

Missy Mazzoli’s awesome Victoire will also be playing that night previewing  some new material from their upcoming NewAm album!

You can get tickets for a discounted price at:
